It did say Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn in italics on the barrel and it does say MARLIN GOLDEN 39A in caps. I know "golden" means its not old old. But it only had a 4 digit serial number located under the lever handle on the bottom tang, 3367. No other numbers on the exterior of the rifle.

The Weaver is O.K. but I think it really detracts from the nice look of the trim 39A receiver. The thin steel 3/8" dove tail mount like the older Marlins came with before the thick aluminum base was supplied with the new rifles looks more suited to the 39A. Outback Gun Parts still sells the steel base and is a duplicate for the old Marlin base.

The one I'm asking about in this thread is a Marlin Model 39A, 24-inch, ".22 CAL. S. L. & L.R.". The serial number under the lever is 242XX. It has a small "JM" in an oval stamped on the right side of the barrel. The stock is plain. The rust primarily extends from a couple inches past the forend to the muzzle.
